Shoplifting: A Losing Proposition
Millions of dollars in merchandise is stolen from stores every year. As you may well know, losses are a significant percentage of total sales - enough to cancel out profits for some stores. And no place of commerce is safe from shoplifting. Shoplifting occurs in large and small stores alike. Statistics do show that a greater percentage of shoplifting occurs in smaller stores. Below are a few measures you can take to better protect your store against shoplifting:

Closed Circuit Security Cameras
Place Electronic Tags or Less Expensive Dye Tags on High Priced Items Put Up Signs To Alert People to the Seriousness of Shoplifting The most important safety measure any store can take is to be aware of the surroundings. Just because a person is wearing a suit and tie does not mean that person will not shoplift. In fact, all types of people, from varying economic levels, shoplift. Although young people make up a large proportion of all shoplifters, they are not the only ones. Professionals, drug addicts, and average shoppers can be potential shoplifters. Appearance does not count when it comes to shoplifting.
If you do see someone shoplifting in your store, do not confront the person.
First, call the police at 911, and after that contact the Allstate Security Officer.

Remember - no shoplifting means fewer losses, resulting in more profits.
